Customer Use Case: Fiberline

We ourselves can tell a lot about ourselves and our software. However, no one can say more about our software than our customers, who use it every day.

Our use cases show how companies achieve success with our solutions. There is no better way than to hear what our customers think!

Below is a use case from our customer Fiberline.

About Fiberline composites

Headquartered in Denmark, Fiberline Composites is one of the world’s leading suppliers of composite materials for turbine blades and wind turbine structures made of carbon fiber in the wind power industry.
Fiberline’s FRP profiles differ from other traditional building materials such as concrete, steel and wood and offer several unique advantages.

Mastering challenges and facing problems

The challenges and issues Fiberline faced were primarily increasing customer demands for quality documentation and Six Sigma capability requirements. Rapid growth also increased the need for an integrated solution to meet high demands and ensure the quality of their own products.

Furthermore, various systems used for quality in a combination of Excel, Access, legacy systems and ERP system without any integration made for a very labor-intensive solution search and increased the risk of errors. To overcome these challenges and turn problems into strengths, an external consultant was hired at that time to evaluate the quality system, and during this time QDA was selected as one of the contenders in the process. QDA was selected based on a recommendation from internal quality engineering staff and a key customer in the wind power industry. Fiberline was looking for a flexible, user-friendly and cost-effective solution.

The way to the solution

But how was QDA able to support Fiberline? QDA was involved at a very early stage, supporting the creation of the RFP in various workshops and then in the implementation of the system to follow Fiberline’s workflows and meet the requirements of customers and external auditors.

Among others, Fiberline uses QDA SPC Software, QDA Incoming Inspection, QDA Measurement Data Management Software, QDA ERP Integration with Axapta.
The implementation began with a definition workshop to establish the processes, naming convention and alignment to ensure that the system not only replicated previous processes, but was also built to accommodate global expansion.

After an initial workshop and basic training, the QDA solution supported a pilot implementation of a specific part that mapped the entire process.
This was used as a model/template for further implementation.

After the go-live of the initial project, regular brainstorming sessions and solution meetings were held to ensure Fiberline was implementing the expected optimizations and to fine-tune the process.

After the system had been running for 4 years, a re-evaluation was done to adapt the solution to the current situation, and additional modules were added for incoming inspection, as the initial rollout was very production oriented.

Satisfaction

The solution meets the expectations and additional functions are added as a natural extension for the suppliers.
The change from a standalone system to an integrated system saved a lot of time in daily work, and the process of creating product certificates went from a manual to a fully automated process. The interface to Axapta is done via file transfer with CSV files. Integration with devices is done via DFQ files.
Paperless production, optimization of the quality process and facilitation of daily work are just some of the advantages Fiberline now enjoys.

Conclusion

“The QDA solution has been very good to work with and the experience of the QDA team has helped Fiberline grow. Having just purchased QDA for our next installations too, we can say that we are happy with our decision to use QDA”, said Kim Birk Larsen from Fiberline Composites.
